The History of Cochran Chapel

Cochran Chapel’s story begins in 1843, when the Cochran family moved
from Missouri to Texas. A year later, the first Christian sermon in Dallas County was preached in the Cochrans’ cabin to a little group of Methodist settlers. As the years went by, the Cochrans bought land along what is now Bachman Creek and built the first deeded and dedicated church in Dallas in 1858. The Cochrans and other Dallas pioneers are buried in the cemetery on the grounds. The home built in 1895 by William P. Cochran for his family still stands and serves as a center for ministry.
