Mission of the Month
This September, Cochran Chapel is partnering with the Prison Entrepreneurship Program (PEP), a Texas nonprofit helping men prepare for successful lives after incarceration through education, mentorship, leadership development, and employment support.
You can give by designating “Mission of the Month” on your check, through the church’s online giving portal, or by noting it on your offering envelope.
Mere Christianity Book Study
The Wednesday Bible Study will begin a study of Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis on April 15. Based on a series of radio broadcasts Lewis gave during World War II, the book offers a thoughtful introduction to the Christian faith. It explores the existence of God, the role of theology, ethics and virtue, and the Christian understanding of God. The class meets Wednesdays at 10:00am in the Fellowship Hall.

There’s an old song that says, “The church is not a building, the church is not a steeple, the church is not a resting place, the church is a people.” At Cochran Chapel United Methodist Church, you will find beautiful, historic buildings (including one with a steeple!) and a place to rest spiritually in a busy world. But the best thing you will find is the people: younger and older, of different skin tones and political persuasions, all of whom are united in our desire to follow Jesus by loving God and our neighbor. We invite you to become a part of our church community. As that old song says, “I am the church. You are the church. Let’s be the church together.”
Project Transformation (PT) is a ministry that aims to develop young readers and leaders by providing church-based community-oriented summer day camp programming for children in grades 1-12 from low-income neighborhoods. PT’s programs focus on enriching the body, mind, and spirit of every participating child, but place a unique emphasis on literacy. During the summer, each child is paired daily with a volunteer to read with one-on-one. Young adults lead these programs serving and building relationships with children and youth, living in intentional community with their peers, and exploring a call to ministry and service. As a result of their participation in PT, 97% of students maintain or improve their reading skills over the summer and 92% of young adult alumni say that PT prepared them for future leadership in the church or community.
