WE ARE A COMMUNITY
These are the 4 characteristics of a true community: community investment, community ownership, community creation, and community sharing. Cochran Chapel exhibits these characteristics through the many activities inside and outside our buildings.
First, we ask that persons in our community invest in the community; we do that through our prayers, our presence, our gifts and our service. Secondly, we ask that persons take ownership of our campus and our ministries. This is our sacred space and holy ground and it is not only historic but it is the spring board from which we respond to God's grace in our lives. Thirdly, we ask persons to be creators; creators of the kingdom of God, creators of new and innovative ministry, creators of a better and safer environment for all of God's children. And finally, we ask that persons who share in our community work to leave this community and this campus better than we found it when we arrived.
We are a culturally and ethnically diverse, differently abled, multi-generational, embracing and inclusive congregation with a long history in the city of Dallas. We are dedicated to the United Methodist tradition of making disciples for Jesus Christ. We are a church of "Open Hearts. Open Minds. Open Doors."
Thank you for visiting our online home. We are excited that you have found us and hope that you will partner with us in our myriad opportunities for worship, study and service.
Adult Sunday School
Seekers, Open Door
Seekers class is a pastor-led study of the Gospel of Mark seeking to discover Mark's message, meaning, and manner.
Open Door class studies a variety of materials to apply bible teaching to daily life. A presentation of a topic is given by the class leader and discussion follows.
The Nursery is available for infants and children under five from 9:00AM until the end of the 10:15 service
Sunday School for children is for ages 5-11. It meets in the first floor of the education building at 9am until 9:45am. We use all-in-one Sunday School curriculum.
Children Packets are available in the Sanctuary. The packets contain coloring pages and activities.
The Chancel Choir regularly provides music for our 10:15 worship service. In addition, the music ministry also offers special music offerings for both services and musicals for the Advent/Christmas season. Our congregation has come to expect high quality music from our choir and wider music ministry. The presence of music in corporate worship, and the time spent in rehearsals and planning, helps facilitate a meaningful encounter with the living God for all who worship at CCUMC.
All are welcome to participate in the chancel choir. Weekly rehearsals are held on Wednesdays at 7pm in the choir room. We also welcome instrumental musicians to participate in selected anthems and other musical opportunities in worship.
The Nurture ministry of Cochran Chapel gives attention to the various ways we can foster spiritual growth and development, encourage community fellowship and support members in their personal lives. This type of ministry takes many different forms as seen in the emphasis on Sunday School. Various times in the year the Nurture ministry will provide the church community with opportunities for fellowship and celebration, for example, brunch as a community meal in the season of Christmas and Easter and summer to bring the church family together.
The Reading Circle has met for many years as a chance for persons interested in reading different books to come and report on what they have read and share their insights. This group gathers on the 4th Thursday of each month at 2:00p.m.
